How First Draft Essays are Graded? Tips for Success
Points are awarded based on completion of the first draft, which includes the following: a successful attempt at that type of essay according to the objectives for the assignment, using the resources and instructions on the class website and/or DQs and instructions, following the outline, using the APA 7th Edition template, writing your best in third person narrative, using in-text citations that coordinate with the sources listed on the references page.
☑️All LopesWrite report scores should be as close to 0% as possible for the similarity score and below 20%. ⚠️Because the first draft is graded based on completion, do not assume that this grade reflects or predicts the final grade for your final essay. |
Point deductions will occur for the following: not including a references page, going under over the word count of 750-1,000 words (not including references page and cover page), purposely using first person or second person narrative in your writing, using AI or internet generated statements or words in your essay, and/or choosing sources that do not meet the updated requirements for the essay.
|
🚫No credit will be awarded for a first draft if it does not attempt to meet the requirements for the assignment.
⚠️If this occurs, a temporary zero will be given, and a possible redo of the assignment by a specific due date. ➡️For example, this might include essays that have sources not showing academic integrity, such as in-text citations not coordinating with the reference page listings; using AI to write your essay; LopesWrite report has a 20% score and over; outline or information that does not meet the objectives for the essay, etc. |
The completion grade does not use the rubric, and revisions are required after receiving feedback for a first draft essay from the instructor.
🫸🏻Wait on the LopesWrite feedback (in purple) and revise before submitting the final essay. ⚠️ If few or no revisions are made to the first draft, using the instructor’s feedback, the final essay will be graded based on the rubric which could include a lower and/or failing grade. |
